MALACAÑANG HAS NO APPEAL FOR SHARON
ABS-CBN News.com, November 30, 2001
There has been a prediction that megastar
Sharon Cuneta would someday become the country's first lady when his
senator-husband Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan is elected President of the
Philippines.
Although overwhelmed by
the prediction, Sharon revealed that the MalacaŅang Palace does not appeal
to her even if the forecast were to come true.
Philippine show biz's megastar said that she would
rather remain at her mansion in Wack Wack, Greenhills, San Juan, than
transfer to the presidential palace when Francis serves as the country's
chief executive.
She said that she
could not see herself strictly leading the life of a politician's wife,
adding that, so far, nothing has compared to her life as a popular and
well-loved movie star.
The
35-year-old actress-singer, however, maintained that she would in every
way support her husband in whatever plans he has in the political
arena.
Pirated
VCDs
Meantime, despite the
astounding success of her reunion flick with Robin Padilla, the megastar
said she was saddened by reports that pirated video compact discs (VCD) of
their movie had reached the market even before it was shown in
moviehouses.
She further called on
the government to get its act together to fight intellectual-property
piracy.
A pirated VCD can cost as
low as P50 compared to the original version priced at P150 to
P250.
Provincial revenues of local
film producers and distributors of foreign films have reportedly dropped
100% since 1994, mainly due to film piracy.
