"Ever since I could walk, I could already sing. When I was little, I loved singing along with my Mom, who played the piano everyday... Music is such a blessing, a gift from God. That's why with this concert, I just want to give everything back to my fans, to the people who have been listening to me for the past 25 years. This is my gift to them. It will be a journey. A celebration. A part of my life, a part of my heart forever."

Mega Musical Journey

Sharon turns silver and with a big shebang, a mega musical journey, if you will.

To celebrate this important milestone in her multi media showbiz career, Megastar Sharon Cuneta returns to where it all began: her music, her songs.

Singing, after all, is Miss Mega's first love.

As a 12-year old young hopeful, Shawie made a simple request to her parents, that she be allowed to record a lilting ballad entitled "Tawag ng Pag-Ibig" by Rey Valera, for her first album ever, DJ's Pet, under the Sunshine label (Vicor).

"I distinctly remember my first guesting for the promo of song 'Mr. DJ,' " Sharon recalls, wistfully. "It was on Student Canteen, back in 1978."

And when the opening notes of Valera's "Mr. DJ" were played, Sharon heard a gasp, a murmuring in the gallery, among the admiring audiences.

"It was then that I realized that I had something special in my hands," Sharon beams.

Little did they know then that this childhood fascination will blossom into an unparalleled career in entertainment, encompassing all forms of media: from recording to the movies, from television to advertising.

Sharon Speaks:
"My first 'public' was my Dad and Mom's party guests who came to celebrate with them at our home every year. Every year when we had a party, my Dad and Mom would hire someone to play the then fashionable Yamaha Organ.

And I would always look forward to it because I always knew that I was going to be asked to sing for my parents' guests! On one evening, when I was 11 years old, my uncle, Tito Sotto (husband of Tita Helen Gamboa), who was then vice president for Production of Vicor Music Corporation, quietly listened to me sing 'Bato sa Buhangin'. After the song, he asked me if I wanted to make records! Of course, I said 'yes'. But then it took him a whole year exactly six days after my 12th birthday to have me visit him at the Vicor office. There, he made me listen to a study tape of 'Tawag ng Pag-Ibig', and asked me if I liked it and if I could record it. I studied the song at home and after about a week, I recorded it! I was so excited. This song became my first single. 'Mr. DJ' was my second, and it was really the song that started the ball rolling for me. My first real public performance, on television, was on Discorama on GMA 7 (for the promo of 'Tawag ng Pag-Ibiq'). I was so nervous, but really happy!"

Because of her numerous accomplishments in diverse fields (like the movies and television), it is so easy to gloss over Sharon Cuneta's equally stellar achievements in the music industry.

But the Multi-Media Megastar is, first and foremost, a singer, a recording artist with a consistently successful track record.

The "DJ's Pet", the little girl with the golden voice, has been waxing a string of gold records for a good two decades and a half. Truth be told: Hers is a singing career minted in "platinum".

One clear advantage Sharon had was that she was a pioneer of sorts, "the first 12-year old girl to have a recording career" at that time. She was, in fact, the only girl her age to join the Manila Sound/OPM bandwagon in the late 70s.

"I was the only 12-year old professional singer then," Sharon recalls. "I was the baby of the Vicor stable." She grew up in the company of such topnotch singers as Rico J. Puno, Basil Valdez, Freddie Aguilar, Leah Navarro, and the VST & Company.
