UP CLOSE & PERSONAL WITH SHARON, RICHARD AND OLIVE
Today with Kris Aquino, February 18, 2000
Once upon a time, megastar Sharon Cuneta and handsome hunk Richard Gomez professed love for each other. But the fairy tale soon ended in oblivion and they found love in the arms of other people. Theirs wasn't a bitter separation so after almost five years of separation, Sharon and Richard find themselves reunited in the poignant love story, "Minsan, Minahal Kita", megged by multi-awarded director Olive Lamasan. Let's get up and personal with the stars we all longed to be reunited once more.
Sharon Cuneta on the movie
Noong ng shooting talagang kinakabahan ako. Nakailang takes kami dahil sa katangahan ko dahil hindi ko talaga makuha-kuha 'yung mga linya ko. Pero soon after eh nag-relax na rin naman ako. Of course, there is box office pressure dahil my last film did very well ("Madarasta", also under Star Cinema, which earned her a grandslam in the Best Actress race) pero I also learned to have fun while doing the movie. I also had a lot of help from Direk Olive. We've been close ever since she became the Executive Producer of 'The Sharon Cuneta Show' six years ago. There is a closeness between us kaya she knows exactly what will make me cry or laugh."
Sharon for Pasay mayor?
"No. I will not run for any position in Pasay. I told this to my dad, even before he became seriously ill. Sabi ko 'Dad, I'm not cut out for this'. Kapag sinabi kong hindi, hindi na talaga."
On her dreams
"I dream that someday I will be able to make a record for international distribution. I also hope to get pregnant with my second child. After that, siguro I will continue with my studies again and get that diploma. I'll never be at peace until I get that diploma."
Richard Gomez on the movie
"I have always strived for the best in everything I do so I gave my all for this movie. My acting kasi comes from experience so I easily got into my role for this movie."
On self-discipline
"You have to believe in yourself that you can do anything if you set your mind to it. You must also learn to criticize yourself so that you'll know which attitudes to improve."
On education
"Let's put it this way – a diploma won't assure you of anything except for a piece of paper. Who you will be in the future is entirely dependent on oneself and not that diploma."
Director Olivia Lamasan on the movie
"I didn't have that many relationships pero ako kasi 'yung hingahan ng mga kaibigan ko na may problema sa kanilang mga relationships, which is why I excel in making this kinds of films."
On love and marriage
"As I've said in 'Minsan, Minahal Kita', for every woman, there can only be one great love. Marriage is not a prize. Ang mga babae ay walang utang na loob sa mga lalake dahil pinakasalan sila ng mga ito. There should be love and respect in every marriage. A marriage is a commitment to love and friendship at hindi mo dapat hayaan na hanapin niya iyon sa iba."
Well, it's my turn to say that for every genre of film there is, there can only be one which will emerge as the best. I bet it'll be "Minsan, Minahal Kita". Watch out for its Philippine grand showing on February 23.
