KC DOES NOT BELIEVE IN COURTSHIP
by Mario E. Bautista, Malaya, July 29, 2003

Didn't KC Concepion have a hard time shooting her new PH Care TV commercial showing her swimming in a pool? "I've always loved swimming so I did all the swimming stunts myself. Napakinabangan ko 'yung mga kaek-ekan ko noon in the pool shots. But it was a lot of hard work because nakalublob ako sa water for about twenty minutes, then I'd get out of the pool and they'd dry me up, fix me, and then I'd go back to the pool again for a series of more shots."

Do you know that KC does not believe in courtship? "I don't believe in ligawan. It's better to be just good friends where you show the real you and let it develop from there. Let things just happen when you know each other well enough already."

Did she have a happy childhood, considering she has such famous parents? "I think I had a pretty happy and normal childhood. The best thing I like are the family gatherings on my mother's side, especially during Christmas and I'd be with all my cousins and we'd laugh and eat together. I think I'm lucky because at a very young age, I was able to visit so many foreign countries and I was able to watch my mom work so I learned so much from that, too."

What doesn't she like about being a celebrity herself? "I think it's when people judge you and they have a set mind about you, like when they see you at the mall and you'd hear them say: 'Ang yabang naman niyan' when they don't even know me. But I'm not affected at all because I think I know myself well to know I'm not mayabang naman."

If she could occupy the body of a female celebrity, who'd it be? "Drew Barrymore. I just love her. She is sexy in her own way, voluptuous, not stick thin. I love even her imperfections."

How's her mom, Sharon Cuneta, and dad, Sen. Kiko Pangilinan? Is it true they almost separated? "No. I don't believe the rumors at all because I know that if they have problems, they would know how to solve it by themselves. My dad has a very good sense of family and very responsible."

When she returns home from her studies abroad, will she work behind the camera as a director? "I'd like that. But I also want to appear in front of the camera so hindi ba puedeng I can be both an actor and a director? I want to play something very intense, dramatic. I really love creating, but I'm really not sure yet what I'd do. I just want to work with people and I also love psychology. As of now, all I know is that education is something very important to me because it is something I can pass on to my kids."

If there's one thing she can change in this world, what would it be? "I think it's racism, because of what happened to a friend who was discriminated against recently. It really got to me because so many people from other nations do not know us and yet look down on us. So I wish people would not be racist."
