KC CONCEPCION ó A CELEBRITY EVEN BEFORE SHE WAS BORN!
by Crispina Martinez. Belen, Manila Bulletin, July 19, 2003

Boy Abunda introduced her as ìa celebrity even before she was born.î And indeed KC Concepcion was a celebrity even before she was born, having the megastar Sharon Cuneta as mom, and the very handsome actor Gabby Concepcion as dad.

The occasion was the recent media launch of KC as the newest endorser of pH Care at Ratsky Morato. And Boy Abunda, as always, did a well job of hosting the event. He did the interviewing in his usual smooth, suave and witty way.

But before the interview, KC in a fluidly flowing gown, came onstage via a lovely dance number. Asked later where she had inherited her terpsichorean skills, KC said ìmy Mom isnít a bad dancer, but through old photos Iíve discovered, my grandmother was also a natural dancer.î Actually, she was asked to choose between a song and a dance number wherein to announce her presence, and she chose the latter. Her dancing skill, she added, didnít come naturally; she learned along the way, through her theater stints.

Anyway, now that she has evolved into a lovely, intelligent adult, what big decisions has she made? Definitely her own woman, KC makes her own decisions now, she makes her own choices now, but of course she still has to consult her parents. ìBut theyíre cool, theyíre strict in the right way. Theyíre fair. I reason out with them when I want to do something, and they understand.î Does she believe her parents have problems big enough to threaten their marriage?

ìNo, I never believe that. Iím very sure they can take care of any problem that they encounter.î When asked about her ideal man, KC again said (like she said in past interviews) that he has to be like her stepdad (Senator Kiko Pangilinan) ìwho is very focused and responsible, and who values family so much. I want someone who values family too, and who values me as a person.î Sheís closer to her stepdad than her own natural father, for obvious reasons. Sharon and Gabby separated a long time ago, when KC was still a tot. ìIím not as close as Iíve wanted to my Dad (Gabby) but in fairness he does make an effort to communicate.î

KC claims she had a very happy and normal childhood despite the fact that her parents are separated. ìI enjoyed my motherís family; we did fun things together.î

KC describes herself as someone ìwith a huge capacity to love.î Someone pretty laid-back too, ìI donít try to be somebody else,î she added. She considers Piolo Pascual, who has been rumored to be her suitor, as a good friend. ìWe went on a date twice, but thatís all. Nothing came out of it. We are good friends and sometimes we call each other.î She is also friends with Luis ìLuckyî Manzano, Vilma Santos and Edu Manzanoís son, KC said.

And now that KC is about to embark on a life alone (sheís leaving soon for Europe to study), sheís getting even closer to her family. ìIím thinking a lot about them these days. I love my sister Frankie very much and Iím going to miss her a lot.î KC plans to study for a year in Paris and then go to the US where she really would want to finish college. KC values education. ìMy Mom always say I have to have a fall-back in life.î As to why she wants to study abroad, she said ìI like absorbing different cultures.î

As to her showbiz career, KC said sheíd like to be actor and director at the same time. ìIíd like to play something intense and dramatic someday. And then try comedy as well.î

A confident young woman, KC projects even more confidence now that sheís become co-endorser of pH Care with her Mom. ìActually, my Mom introduced me to pH Care and I liked it.î

At her age, KC is someone who isnít afraid to try things. Like the underwater shoots for pH Care TVC. ìI was excited because everything has been very creative.î The creative team was led by renowned Australian director Franco Marinelli who said ìIíd like to say that working with KC has been an absolute joy. Point the camera, throw the lights on her, sheís exceptionally beautiful, exceptionally talented and undoubtedly one of the potentially greatest talents the Philippines will ever see.î
