SHARON FROWNS ON POLITICAL INTRIGUES

abs02.jpg Thirty-two years of being a mayor's daughter hardly prepared megastar Sharon Cuneta for political intrigues as a would-be senator's wife.

Sharon, who has been religiously attending the campaign sorties of her husband, People Power Coalition (PPC) senatorial candidate Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan, recently put her foot down on rumors spreading about the "mega lawyer-broadcaster."

A recent report claimed Pangilinan has accepted P5 million from a campaign sponsor who was the object of Sharon's jealousy.

A seething Sharon told ABS-CBN morning news program Alas Singko Y Media Monday that the rumor was bereft of truth.

"It's exasperating sometimes when all I do is just ignore these worthless intrigues. That's a foul thing. Is that how dirty these people play the game of politics? It just shows what kind of political opponents my husband has," she said.

Sharon said some political candidates obviously resent the fact that her being a popular and well-loved celebrity is doing wonders to her husband's campaign.

"Kiko and I take our being husband and wife very seriously. Even if he was only running for president of the village association, I would still support him," Sharon said.

"It just so happened, sorry to the others, that I am a showbiz personality," she added. "I'm sorry but we would be stupid not to use my so-called popularity to make people aware of my husband and his credentials."

Sharon, meanwhile, revealed that some local candidates have been taking advantage of her presence in PPC's campaign trail.

She said there were candidates who had other things in mind in seeking a souvenir photo with her.

"I get surprised sometimes. Once, I saw my face in a calendar with a candidate whom I don't even know. The thing is, even if I don't personally know a candidate, as long as I know that what he's doing is good, I will be all out in endorsing him. What I don't like is those who take advantage [of me]," she said.
