"Vunde gurunam caranaravinde / Sandarista-svatma-sukhavabodhe..." Or so goes Madonna's "Shanti/Ashtangi" in her Grammy Award-winning album Ray of Light. Translated in English, it reads: "I worship the guru's lotus feet/Awakening the happiness of the self revealed..." Which is, by the way, the sense that one gets from Sharon Cuneta these days, and so it is only most fittin that she is recast as some mysterious, even mystical Indian princess here. And is there anybody who deserves the happiness of the self revealed more than the Megastar herself? While she may have been born with the proverbial silver spoon in her pretty mouth, Sharon has paid her dues both personally (the tumultuous marriage to Gabby Concepcion, the heartbreak over Richard Gomez) and professionally (compelling performances in Madrasta and Nang Iniwan Mo Ako). And so we end where we began: "Sahasra-sirasam/Vande." Indeed, we bow respectfully to the peace -- a happy marriage, a marvelous daughter, a strong faith -- that she has arrived at.
